Mead

Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from honey, water and yeast which can be flavoured with different fruits, herbs and spices. It was a common and much loved drink of the Northern European peoples and is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks. Many legends have references to mead within them, from the ever-full mead cauldrons of the Irish to the Norse Eddas telling how Odin gained the mead of poetry. The word honeymoon is believed to date back to the ancient custom of newlyweds drinking mead for the first month moon of wedded life to aid fertility.
